THE TECHNIQUE OF FILM AND VIDEO EDITING: COMEDY
The part of the chapter that I will be discussing is about comedy in all of it's forms, and the significance of the role that an editor plays in each form.
Character comedy: This talks about how a comedian performs as though he or she is a character, and not themselves. This being different from a regular comedic performance. It is the editors role to match the audiences expectations of the character.
Situation comedy: This is common in television and film, it is a series of episodes in which the characters remain the same. The editors role here is more about timing, which limits the depth of creativity as opposed to the other forms of comedy.
Satire comedy: This form of comedy means to talk about the flaws in either the individual or in society using humor and exaggeration. Anything goes here. It is also the editors most favorable form, as it requires a considerable amount of creativity.
Farce comedy: This comedy is about discussing the improbable situations. It entertains the viewers by over exaggerating. The absurd situations are what is expected when it comes to Farce. The editor is also considered to be a vital part of the process.
When looking at all of the terms above, I learned that they are all apart of common knowledge. However, I now know the correct term for their meanings. Before reading the chapter, I was not aware of the true art that goes into producing each unique form. All ways will draw a certain crowd who enjoy that type of comedy, and being a fan of comedy as well as a person with aspirations to one day become a professional video editor, it is fantastic to know the significant role an editor plays. Combining the art of comedy and editing to create one masterpiece.
Here is a brief history of comedy that I enjoyed watching:
