Tashi and the Monk - Thoughts

Tashi and the monk is a very unique and interesting documentary that captures troubles, emotion, and happiness all in one. It is about a former monk who starts a school for troubled children, these children will not get anywhere unless he takes them in and mentors them. The story is particularly touching as the monk himself understands the troubles that these children may be going through and is not just a compassionate person. When he was younger, his mother had hidden him under leaves before his grandparents saved him and raised him from a troubled child to the person he is today. I particularly like the simplicity of the film as the shots are nothing mind blowing but rather beautiful through the content of what is being shown through the growing connection of Tashi and the Monk. To see the growth of Tashi throughout from hitting other children constantly and chewing on glass to happily smiling and getting along with other children is what captured the films essence that no matter how troubled someone may be, love and compassion, as well as patience, can always save these people, this is the message that I received from the powerful documentary and I hope to see a future follow up to see how the two are doing today. After watching the documentary twice we also had the pleasure of Skyping with the director Andrew Hinton where we had a Q&A session asking him questions from the documentary to advice to all his other works and it was great to hear the thought process of a director with a great vision.
